Creating a connected operating system for modern golf clubs with Caddyio
A responsive web application connecting coaching, live golf, member activity and day-to-day club operations within one branded platform.

The context
Caddyio first began as part of our work with Horam Park Golf Club. While developing the club’s new website and members’ area, it became clear that the digital experience should not stop once somebody had found the club, joined or booked a round.
Golf clubs often rely on several different systems to manage competitions, scoring, memberships, societies, coaching and communication. Each may perform an individual job, but the overall experience can become fragmented for members, coaches and the staff responsible for running the club.
Coaching was an especially important part of the opportunity. At many clubs, the golf professional plays a central role in the wider business, with lessons, the Pro Shop and driving range forming a significant part of the service. However, lesson notes, playing history and performance data are often kept separately, making it harder for coaches and players to see how the work completed during a lesson is translating onto the course.
There was also an opportunity to make the live running of the club easier. Staff need to understand what is happening across the course, respond to players who need assistance and support hospitality services without relying entirely on radio calls, manual checks or players returning to the clubhouse.
Caddyio was designed around the way modern golf clubs actually operate, improving the experience for the people running the club as well as the members using it.
What we did
EDP designed and developed Caddyio as a responsive web application that can be used across mobile phones, desktop computers and larger clubhouse displays.
The platform was built around the different people who interact with a golf club. Members need a straightforward way to score rounds, enter competitions, follow leaderboards and understand how their game is developing. Coaches need to manage students, record lessons and connect their advice to real playing performance. Staff need practical tools that give them greater visibility and control across the course and clubhouse.
Coaching was developed as one of the platform’s core capabilities rather than being treated as a separate diary or booking tool. Professionals can manage their students, record lesson notes, review playing statistics and see how players are progressing between sessions. Members can revisit advice, follow their development and build a clearer picture of their game over time.
For the wider member experience, we created live scoring, digital scorecards, competitions, societies, Orders of Merit and performance tracking. These features make it easier to take part, remove unnecessary administration and add more interest to everyday rounds through live leaderboards, group scoring and visible progress.
Caddyio also gives staff a live view of activity across the course. GPS tracking and the clubhouse wallboard can show where players are, help identify pace-of-play issues and make it easier to respond when somebody requests assistance or reports a problem.
The platform extends into hospitality too. Players can make on-course requests, including refreshments, without waiting until they return to the clubhouse. This gives staff more useful information about where the request has come from while helping the club provide a more responsive service and create additional opportunities around food and drink.
Behind the scenes, role-based access, member management, tee-time booking and configurable features allow the system to support different members of the club team without giving everybody access to the same controls.
Each member-facing experience can be branded around the individual club and accessed through the browser without requiring another generic app download. Horam Park became the first club implementation, connecting Caddyio with its public website and private members’ area to create a wider journey from discovering the club through to joining, playing and staying involved.
The outcome
Caddyio has developed into a connected operating system designed around golf clubs, their members, their coaches and the staff responsible for delivering the experience.
For club professionals, the coaching capabilities create a stronger connection between lessons and real playing performance. Advice no longer needs to disappear into handwritten notes or isolated messages. It can sit alongside the player’s rounds, statistics and ongoing development.
For staff, live course visibility, on-course requests and connected member information make it easier to understand what is happening and respond appropriately. The platform supports the practical running of the club as well as the golf itself, including the hospitality and service experience surrounding a round.
For members, Caddyio makes participation simpler and more engaging. They can score from their phones, follow competitions, play with others, track their progress and return to coaching advice in one place. The result is not only a more convenient experience, but one that adds more interaction and enjoyment before, during and after they play.
Most importantly, Caddyio can continue to develop around how individual clubs operate. Rather than asking a club to reshape its processes around fixed software, the platform can be configured and extended to support its members, services and commercial priorities.
